The National Independent Electoral Commission communicated on Saturday that about 1,2 million people were registered to vote at the end of the provisional census organized in Area 1. According to the institution, this represents 92 % of the electorate in the concerned areas.
However, Angèle Dola Aguigah (photo), president of the NIEC, stated that this figure was likely to evolve because all data have not been processed yet.
Census operations in Area 2 (Wawa-Lomé commune) will begin on April 12th, and will last 8 days.
The constitution of reliable and actualized electoral lists should make possible the organization of legislative then local polls in the next weeks.
