Faure Gnassingbé on Wednesday condemned the attack suffered by his Guinean counterpart, Alpha Condé (photo).The president of Togo expressed strong opposition to any form of disruption of power and praised the Guinean President for his "tireless efforts to restore peace and return to stability in Guinea".
The Guinean president was the target of an attack by the military, on Tuesday. A member of the presidential guards was killed and two others wounded in the attack on his residence in Conakry.
Former Chief of Staff of the Army, General Nouhou Thiam, was arrested shortly after the attack. He was dismissed by President Condé shortly after his swearing-in ceremony on December 21, 2010.
