President Faure Gnassingbé arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday at 15h (local), for a five-day official visit during which he will be welcomed by Emperor Akihito and will hold talks with Prime Minister Naoto Kan, a survivor motion of censure which nearly cost him his job.
Mr. Gnassingbé is accompanied by a ministerial delegation comprising of, mainly, the chief of diplomacy Elliott Ohin.
The president of Togo is the first head of state to have an official visit to Japan since the earthquake of 11 March.
