President Faure Gnassingbé arrived in Rome on Friday. He will attend the conference tomorrow at FAO (UN Food and Agriculture). The President is accompanied by Minister of Agriculture, Kossi Messan Ewovor.
He will be having meetings, in the afternoon, with the Executive Director of World Food Programme (WFP) and the President of IFAD (International Fund for Agriculture and Development).
On Saturday, the 191 member states will proceed, including, with the election of a new CEO to replace the Senegalese Jacques Diouf (in office since 1994).
Six candidates are competing, Franz Fischler (Austria), José Graziano da Silva (Brazil), Miguel Ángel Moratinos Cuyaubé (Spain), Indroyono Soesilo (Indonesia), Mohammad Saeid Noori Naeini (Iran - Islamic Republic of), Abdul Latif Rashid (Iraq).
Also on the menu of this 37th conference, the rise in food products that affects the fragile economies. The President of Togo intends to ask the international community to limit speculation that blew up the price.
