Ban Ki-Moon’s letter to Faure

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon (photo), recently addressed a message to President Faure Gnassingbé in which he thanks the Togo for its “ brave decision to deploy troops in support of Operation +Serval+ and for its participation in the International Support Mission in Mali.”

Ban Ki-Moon writes, “Since the beginning of the military operations, the Togolese armed forces have contributed to force back the radical forces, and to liberate the occupied areas”

The secretary general of the UN recalls that the Togo had to pay a heavy price with the death of three of its soldiers.

“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Togolese people, to you personally, and to the families of the Togolese soldiers dead on the field. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” indicated the Head of the United Nations.

Togo has deployed around 500 soldiers in Mali. It was the first African country to send a contingent to Bamako.
