The Commander of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Togolese general Gnakoudé Béréna received on wednesday the commemorative medal of the UN after over a year spent heading the force of the UN mission. The medal was awarded by the special representative of the Secretary General Arnauld Akodjénou.
The ceremony took place at the ONUCI headquarters in Abidjan.
During his speech, Mr. Béréna to Ivory Coast's political authorities and to the progress accomplished by the "Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire". "Ivory Coast has been able to move one from a dark chapter in its history".
Gnakoudé Béréna has assumed the leardership of the mission on March 17th 2011.
