A bus crash in Togo on Friday killed 26 people from neighbouring Burkina Faso and wounded dozens of others after the vehicle transporting merchants overturned, officials said.
Most of the victims were traders from Burkina Faso, with the bus travelling between the country's capital of Ouagadougou and the Togolese capital Lome, a statement from the Burkina Faso government said.
They were on their way to Lome for their businesses when the accident occurred at around 4:00 am, it said. Details of the accident were not immediately clear.
Lome and its port are important regional centres for goods destined for neighbouring countries. The city is also home to a large and popular market.
