Chadian opposition figure arrested in Lome

Police in Togo have arrested an exiled Chadian opposition figure given a five-year jail sentence in absentia for his part in a multi-million dollar international fraud, a security official said Monday.
Hassan Fadoul Kitir was one of several people convicted last November by a Paris court for a fraud and counterfeit operation involving a total of 140 million Bahrain dinars (about 258 million euros / 372 million dollars), dating from more than a decade ago.
"Hassan Fadoul Kitir was arrested last week and is being held in a secure place," the official said, asking not to be named and declining to give any motive for the arrest.
Kitir is a former special advisor to Chad's President Idriss Deby Itno.
