Consolidating democratic gains

The French Ambassador in Togo, Dominique Renaux (photo), congratulated Togo on the significant progress recorded in recent years, on Thursday, and hoped that the recommendations of the observation missions of the European Union during the 2007 legislative elections and the 2010 presidential elections, are implemented.

On addressing the guests who came to celebrate July 14 in the gardens of the residence of France, Mr. Renaux emphasized that these recommendations "seem necessary to create a climate of confidence for the forthcoming parliamentary and local elections."

He also asked the authorities to intensify the fight against impunity and corruption, hoping that the country continues its march towards democracy and being law-abiding.

The diplomat reiterated the availability of France to continue its support to Togo in the process of consolidating democratic gains and for the revival of the economy.
