The European Union (EU) has granted Togo 12 million euros, or about 7.9 billion FCFA, to help the West African country face the effects of the global economic downturn.
The financing convention was signed on Monday in Lome by the Togolese minister to the President in charge of Development Planning and Town and Country Planning, Dédé Ahoéfa Ekoué, and the head of the EU delegation in Togo, Patrick Spirlet.
EU says the aid is an extra payment to the present Budget Support Programme for Poverty Alleviation (ABRP) of 15 million euro, or about 10 billion FCFA.
The assistance granted to Togo as part as of the general budget support programm e for 2009-2010 is estimated at 35.1 million euro, or more than 23 billion FCFA, including 27.6 million euro expected to be released within the framework of the 2010 budget.
