President Faure Gnassingbé welcomed the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglun (photo), on Wednesday.
"I had a meeting with the President, a constructive dialogue on political, economic and humanitarian issues. We also discussed bilateral issues between the OIC and Togo, including representations that Togo should make to benefit from the opportunities offered by our organization, "said Ihsanoglun after the meeting.
The Organization of Islamic Conference, whose headquarters are in Jeddah, is an intergovernmental organization of 57 countries. Further to the terms of solidarity and mutual assistance between Member States, it is intended to safeguard the holy places of Islam. It also supports the Palestinian cause in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But this is not a purely religious organization, because it also has political, economic and social goals and cultural rights.
