Prime Minister Gilbert Houngbo (photo), accompanied by four of his ministers visited the Togo lake, on Monday, to express their condolences to the families of victims from the wreck that occurred on Sunday afternoon between the villages of Komé and Ekpui.
A canoe was capsized due to strong winds on the lake killing 36 people. The origin of the drama is mostly overhead. The aluminum boat was designed to carry twenty passengers; there were 59 on board.
At the direction of the Head of State, the Government made arrangements to provide financial assistance to the survivors who are 21 in number.
In less than 48 hours, Togo has suffered two tragic accidents. On Friday, a bus carrying Burkinabé merchants had crashed into a ravine killing 26 passengers.
