‘Iran and Togo can benefit from cooperation capacities and potentials to develop friendly ties and Tehran-Lomé cooperation,” said President Rouhani in a meeting with the foreign minister of Togo, Robert Dussey.

In the meeting that was held on Monday, Dr Rouhani added: “Iranian companies have good capabilities in various fields such as industry, mining and infrastructural affairs and are capable of competing with major global companies, providing better services and qualities”.

He also said: “Powerful Iranian companies are ready to cooperate in infrastructural projects in Togo”.

Stressing the importance of Iran-Togo consultation and cooperation in international organisations for resolving global issues, Dr Rouhani said: “Threats to peace, stability and security in the world on one hand, and violence, extremism and terrorism on the other, are two important challenges that the world is dealing with today”.

Describing aggression and intervention in other countries’ internal affairs as a threat to global peace and security, he said: “Terrorism has never been a proper tool for any country to advance their goals in the region and it will never be one”.

“Some countries’ financial and arms support, as well as using terrorism as a tool should be stopped and international organisations should decide to take serious measures in combatting terrorism as a global threat,” said Rouhani underscoring that extremist ideas should be fought with.

At the same meeting, the foreign minister of Togo, Robert Dussey referred to shared viewpoints between Iran and Togo, saying: “Togo is willing to develop, cement and deepen ties with the Iran based on potentials and capacities in the two countries”.

“Iran’s diplomatic policies and wise efforts in nuclear negotiations and reaching an agreement has amazed the whole world,” he continued.

He added: “Today, Africa belongs to the people of this region and not to colonial powers and these people are willing to deepen ties with friend countries, especially Iran”.

He also said that Iran and Togo should promote cooperation in combatting terrorism.
