Over 1,100 candidates to contest for 91 seats in Togo's parliament

A total of 1,174 candidates have registered on 185 lists for Togo's legislative elections scheduled for July 21, according to the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) of the West African country.

Out of the 1,174 candidates, only 159 are females, the CENI has said.

The legislative elections, which have been postponed several times since October 2012, will be held to renew the membership of the current parliament.

Among the current parliamentarians are lawmakers from the Majority Parliamentary Group (GMP) and the opposition parties of the Action Committee for Renewal (CAR), the Union of Forces for Change (UFC) and the dissident UFC parliamentarians who are today members of the National Alliance for Change (ANC).
