Togo will kick off voter registration for the legislative and local elections on March 15, according to the government.
The decision was made at a cabinet meeting under President Faure Gnassingbe on Wednesday. In a decree, the government authorized the voter registration exercise between March 15 and April 15.
A document on the issue was submitted to the government by the National Independent Electoral Commission (Ceni), the organ which is charged with the responsibility of supervising the elections.
The adoption of the decree one day after a Ceni meeting to discuss the timetable for the polls.
Territorial Administration Minister Gilbert Bawara said, the "process should be inclusive and participatory," while the opposition parties have rejected the ongoing process to press for the holding of "sincere dialogue."
