Five senior officers of the Togolese Armed Forces (FAT) left Lomé for Syria on Tuesday in order to participate in an observation mission set up by the United Nations. The information was given on wednesday by the spokesperson of the FAT, colonel Djibril Inoussa.
The senior officers will be under the command of lieutenant-colonel Djabakatie Bako.
On April 21st, the Security Council, of which Togo is a member, adopted resolution 2043 authorizing the deployment of 300 non-armed military observers to Syria to supervise the ceasefire. It is one of the six points of the peace plan crafted by the mediator of the UN and the Arab League, Kofi Annan.
