The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa, Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Thursday expressed his satisfaction over the electoral process in Togo after the April 25 presidential election.
We are glad of what we have seen. The United Nations had been involved in the Togo electoral process for about a year. A UN assessment mission to Togo has been deployed few months ago. Then we worked with all the institutions involved in this election, but also the civil society, Chambas said.
The Togolese people voted April 25 without violence. They have freely expressed their choice. All the observers on the spot including civil society have noted that these elections were free and transparent, he added.
He explained that the United Nations has worked closely with Togo’s partners to mobilize the international community to support the electoral process.
Mr. Chambas said he noticed an improvement in every electoral process in Togo.
