Togo was elected as a member of the Council of FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization), on Friday, by the 37th session of the Conference of the organization that is taking place in Rome.
The three-year term will begin 1st December 2011.
The last appearance of Togo in the Council was in 1973 ....
"It's a great satisfaction and a new illustration of the return of Togo within large international organizations. The diplomacy led by President Faure Gnasssingbé, who was here in Rome last week, is paying off," said Batossie Madjoulba, the Permanent Representative of Togo to the FAO.
Luc Guyau (France), the outgoing president of the Board, was reelected by an overwhelming majority (119 countries) for a final term of two years.
