West African franc zone leaders on Monday named former Ivorian minister Kone Tiemoko Meyliet (photo) as new head of the regional BCEAO central bank in charge of monetary policy in the 8-country single currency area.
His appointment came at a summit in the Togolese capital Lome on the four-month Ivory Coast crisis, which ended last month when former leader Laurent Gbagbo was arrested after refusing to acknowledge defeat in a November election.
The presidents of Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Togo, Senegal and Ivory Coast agreed the appointment at a meeting in the Togolese capital Lome, a statement said.
