No other issue but the political one

The Togolese FM, Elliott Ohin, took part in a UNSC meeting on the Syrian crisis in NYC on Thursday.Neither a resolution nor a press release were issued at the end of the meeting.

Togo is a non-permanent member of the Security Council.

Elliott Ohin declared that "The incapacity of the Security to speak in a united fashion in order to find a solution to the crisis is deeply regrettable. The various initiatives taken outside of the council also failed to find a peaceful solution, probably because they were too conflicting."

The Minister acted as Togo's spokesman by urging the international community to act more proactively in the face on the tragedy unraveling in Syria by stepping up the material and financial help for the displaced Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.

Basing himself on various UN reports Elliott Ohin accused both the Syrian regime and the rebels of committing human rights violations.

In regards to a solution to the conflict, the Togolese FM insisted that it could not be a military one in spite of the conflict that has been raging for 18 months. "The solution is a political one" he stressed and invited the Security Council and the international community to an "unequivocal support".
