Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan (photo), was made the Grand Officer of the Mono on Wednesday by the President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbé.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Gilbert Houngbo, President of the Assembly, Abass Bonfoh, members of government and political and administrative personalities.
"This distinction is a tribute which speaks for itself of the unanimity of the Togolese government and people for a great African, a politician and a diplomat who has served and continues to serve with dedication and talent to the most noble causes of our continent and the world," said Houngbo.
"I want to make myself the voice of millions of young Africans who find your exceptional career, an inexhaustible source of inspiration because of our commitments and all that you have done for the well-being of humanity ," said the Prime Minister.
