The Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN in Ivory Coast, Choi Young-Jin, awarded the Togolese conscripts of UNOCI (United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire) the United Nations Medal for "bravery, discipline and courage" during post-election events in the country.
The ceremony was attended by Chief of General Staff of the Togolese Armed Forces (TAF), General Mohamed Atcha Titikpina, and the Commander of UNOCI, General Gnakoudè Béréna, himself a native of Togo (right).
Present in this field since 2002, the Togolese contingent, with 500 men, participated in numerous security operations including the protection of the Hotel du Golf, where the president, Alassane Ouattara, lived for several months until the fall of Laurent Gbagbo.
