The National Assembly adopted a text, on Tuesday, for the contribution of mining to local and regional development of Togo.
The concern of the government and MP’s is to ensure that the local population is benefited from revenues generated by mining.
This text, said Minister of Mines and Energy, Noupokou Dammipi (photo), will facilitate a legislative framework that has long been missing and has been legitimately resulting in frustration of the people concerned. The Act provides, particularly, the establishment in the prefectures of mining areas, a "comité de gestion des fonds générés" and the establishment of a fund for future generations.
Togo has a sub-soil rich in phosphates, limestone and iron concentrates.
