Edem Kodjo wants party re-organized in Togo

The national president of the Togolese Convergence patriotiq ue panafricaine (CPP), Edem Kodjo, has called for the re-organisation of his party management.

"We have the ambition to bring new blood into the party by naming representative s that are closer to the party's grassroots and to the people of Togo regarding t heir age. This will enable the CPP to position itself within the political circle and to start on a new foundation," said the former Togolese Prime minister and former Secretary General of the defunct Organisation of African Unity.Speaking at the opening session of his party's national congress, he indicated h is intention to cease to be a member of the CPP management.

"One cannot be president for life. You will no doubt see changes at the level of the higher structures of the party," revealed Mr. Kodjio.

The congress will assess the progress made by the party since its inauguration i n 1990 and decide areas it needed to make progress.

CCP was founded in 1990 from the merger of the movements of l'Union pour la démo cratie et la solidarité (UDS), Parti d'actions pour le development (PAD), Parti pour la démocratie et l'unité (PDU) and Union togolaise pour la démocratie (UTD).
