Ex-Togolese minister Agbobli 'died of poisoning'

Autopsy report has shown that former Togolese Communication and Culture Minister Atsutsé Kokouvi Agbobli, whose body was found on Friday on the Lome beach, died of "drug poisoning", the state prosecutor, Robert Baoubadi Bakaï, said here.

Speaking on national television Monday evening, he said that the autopsy "systematically ruled out the possibility of a drowning", saying however that the medical examiner could not determine the exact type of drug.He said that the doctor took the "necessary samples" that could be forwarded abroad at the request of the justice or the family of the ex-minister.

The report also attributed the marks on the victim's forehead to his collapse, saying it was not responsible for his death.

A historian and journalist, 67-year-old Agbobli was the chairman of the opposition Movement for National Development (MODENA) formed on 21 April 2007.
