Torrential rains which have been pounding the northern part of Togo for a week now have left more than 10 people dead in the prefecture of Kpendjal, some 600 km north of Lome, official sources affirmed in Lome.
President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, who sympathised with the bereaved families, decreed three days of mourning as solidarity of the entire Togolese people in memory of the dead.An official communiqué issued here Monday directed that the national flag remain at half-mast throughout the country on Monday.
Rain induced floods also destroyed several farms, mud houses and footbridges erected over rivers.
