Togo will hold presidential el ections between 18 February and 5 March, 2010, a statement by Aboudou Assouma, chairman of the Constitutional Court, issued on Thursday in Lomé said.
In a statement issued to put an end to "speculation relating to the date of presidential election for 2010", Assouma said: "The debate on the date for the p residential election is answered by articles 61 and 64 of the 14 October 1992 Co n stitution and article 98 of the electoral code."According to him, presidential elections are to take place within 65 and 75 days before the end of the president's term of office.
President Faure Gnassingbé began his five-year term on 4 May 2005.
