The new vaccine "Pentavalent", now included in the extended Immunisation Programme (EIP) in Togo, was officially launched on Thursday in Tindjassé, a district in the North-western part of the country bordering Ghana.
The vaccine is a compound of antigens against five diseases: diphteria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B and B-strain meningitis influenza. The health ministry said the vaccine would help immunise a least 8O% of children against preventable diseases through vaccination before they reach age 1.
It said the benefit includes rendering unnecessary repeated injections and consultations in health centres and hospitals.
