Togo's Constitutional Court Tuesday upheld the results of the 14 October parliamentary elections as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
According to the results, the ruling Togolese People's Rally (RPT) won 50 seats, against 27 for the main opposition party, the Union of Forces for Change (UFC), and four for the Action Committee for Renewal (CAR) of current Prime Minister Yawovi Agboyibo.''On the whole, the (election) was smoothly conducted,'' Court Chairman Abdou Assouma said.
The Court however rejected the 20 petitions filed by political parties and independent candidates.
More than 2.5 million people, representing an 85% turnout, voted in the elections to fill the 81 seats in the country's Parliament.
