Togo's Parliament Tuesday passed a bill authorising the rati fication of the International Convention Against Doping.
The new legislation fills a legal vacuum and will help the Togolese state to fig ht more effectively against doping. The International Convention Against Doping, which was adopted 19 October 2005 i n Paris, France, is a "normative instrument" that allows states to bring their l a ws, policies and other administrative regulations into line with the World Anti- D oping Code.
Through this legislation, Togo will be able to "restrict the availability of dop ing substances and methods for athletes."
Competent authorities will also be able to "control doping and support national testing programmes, as well as to withdraw the state's financial support from at h letes and members of managing staffs of sportsmen" who will infringe the anti-do p ing regulations.
