Blatter sends condolences to Togo

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter (photo) has sent his condolences to the Togolese football community, which has been hit by another tragedy.

A bus carrying the Etoile Filante de Lome team was involved in a serious road traffic accident on Saturday 26 November. Players and staff were travelling to Sodoke to play their fifth league match of the season when a tire burst causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which rolled over several times before catching fire.

A number of people were killed in the accident, and Blatter was quick to express his shock to the President of the Togo Football Association, Mr Gabriel Ameyi, saying: “I was profoundly saddened when I heard that another tragedy had hit the Togolese football community.”

Blatter asked Ameyi to “pass on the thoughts and support of the global family of football to the family and friends of the victims, as well as to the Etoile Filante de Lome club during this particularly harrowing period”.
